Het is een ammoniummolybdaat dat bestaat uit ammoniumionen en heptamolybdaationen. De naam kan worden onderverdeeld in ammoniumheptamolybdaat of ammoniumparamolybdaat. De chemische formule is (NH4)6Mo7O24, de molaire massa is 1163,9 g/mol en het CAS-registratienummer is 12027-67-7 of 12054-85-2 (tetrahydraat).
